Ledgerly is a household book in the old sense: one place for every account you have, kept by you. Bank accounts sync over FinTS, the standard German banks offer for this, straight to your bank. Cash, savings jars and credit cards sit right next to them.

There are two editions of the same book: a native app for your phone and Mac, and a web app you run on your own server for the whole household. Both speak English and German and follow your light or dark mode.

 Editions

One household book, two editions

  1. The app

Built natively with Flutter for Android, iPhone, iPad and Mac. The book lives in a database on your device, nothing needs an account, and bank sync talks straight to your bank. Your PIN is never stored.

  2. The web app

Built with Nuxt and Vue, as an installable web app you host yourself in one Docker container. Everyone in the household gets their own book on your server. If you turn it on, bank sync runs by itself about twice a day, with the PIN kept encrypted on the server.

 Features

What it does

  1. Bank sync over FinTS

Connects German banks and Sparkassen that offer FinTS, confirmed with a TAN or in your banking app, straight to your bank with no service in between.

  2. Manual accounts

Cash, savings jars, credit cards — anything your bank doesn’t connect.

  3. Categories that fill themselves

Rules match the payee or the bank’s note. Apply them to past transactions too, with a preview and undo.

  4. Budgets that warn you early

Weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly or custom. Amber when it gets tight, red when you’re over.

  5. Recurring entries and IOUs

Repeating bookings, and money lent or borrowed, with repayments and due dates.

  6. Statistics and PDF reports

Spending by category, net worth over time, subscriptions that crept up, and monthly or yearly reports.

Private by design

Your book stays on your side.

The app keeps it on your device, the web app on your own server, and neither sends it to me. Your backups are yours to control. Bank sync talks to your bank and nobody else.

 Availability

Android first

The app is in development and comes to Google Play first; it also builds for iPhone, iPad and Mac. The web app already runs as a self-hosted Docker container, but isn’t published yet. Both editions will be free, and their code will be published as open source when they’re released.
